Uh, Negative Perceptions?

This stuff with the cartoons of Mohammed and the protests that have followed are ludicrous.

What makes it all the crazier to me is to see something like this:

Elsewhere in the Muslim world on Sunday, demonstrators with wooden staves and stones tried unsuccessfully to storm the U.S. Embassy in Indonesia, while tens of thousands rallied in the Turkish city of Istanbul and complained about negative Western perceptions of Islam.

You think we have some negative perceptions of Islam due to the actions of some of its adherents?

Are we not just as appalled as human beings when far-right wing Christians kill abortion doctors?

There is nothing subjective about looking at the actions of these people and saying that it is wrong, out of hand, and bottom-line, crazy. Whatever negative perceptions other people might have about Islam is only being reinforced by these actions.

This isn't about perceptions, this is about reality. It's sad to me that people can't seem to separate those two.

Jon Was Here

Well, the new job at CBS will soon become the old job at CBS, as my work there draws to a close.

After receiving a "promotion" after only my first week, and despite having taken the division from barely operating and meeting delivery requirements, to having a fully-operational workflow, full documentation for the workflow processes, nearly doubling our output AND being several weeks ahead on media acquisition, we came to an impasse that means I'll be moving on. However, I'm still proud of what was accomplished there.

Anyone need a Mobile Media team player with a strong resume? Here's my CV.

The Funny Thing About Dreams

While my blog more often than not tends to be about technology and the entertainment business and my opinion of things orbiting that world, today is a bit different just because.. just because.

In your young adult years, maybe 18 to your mid-20's, your dreams are what seperate you, in your own mind, from everyone else. That you find the wherewithal to pick up and follow those dreams marks the next stage of that.

What I didn't realize until now, was that your dreams change as the years go by. Not in any way becoming lesser dreams.

I dreamed of Hollywood, and the film business. Almost a decade here has gone by - and I have accomplished a few things I'm proud of. I continue to be engaged in the business in really interesting ways - and not "fringy" indie ways either. I've been a studio and network and independent guy the whole way along. I took that plunge and went after it. I still don't know how it's all going to pan out, really, but I will never have the regret that I didn't try. I know my business pretty darn well, and am glad to have had the experiences I have.

But dreams change. And sometimes, other people's dreams even become more important than your own. I'm still waiting, and watching, and letting it all unfold as it will... but I'll tell you, there's some amazing things you can accomplish in life without fame and fortune.
