Sony HDR-SR11 & Final Cut Pro - Sequence Settings
To respond to a comment/question on the HDR-SR11 workflow post I wrote a while back, a reader asked me to post info on the sequence settings I use in ingest.
I don't use any "easy setup" files, but here's what I do for the sequence settings in editing:
One other thing to note; in the Preferences pane of the Log and Transfer window, here's the settings there:
Hope this helps, and thanks for reading!

ahh, yes. Those are the settings I eventually attempted using. I'm glad to see that it's not me doing something incorrect, but something else going on behind the scenes.
I know this because the recorded file plays perfectly on the SR11, as well as on my HDTV when connected via HDMI.
So I guess it's just an 'unknown'. However, I'm glad I'm not the ONLY person to see it:

Thanks again for your help!
I figured it out! After finding a post in the Apple Discussions boards, it turns out that having the Perian prefPane installed causes background problems with Quicktime decoding, which is what Final Cut Pro 6 is using for in-program movie display.
Uninstalling and removing the .prefPane worked like a charm!
Hi, I just got the SR11 AND FCP and after following your instructions I get stuck at the Log and Transfer box because my computer does not display the plugins for prores. can you help?
Thanks!
Hi Kelly & Tamra, thanks for coming by my blog. FCP, as long as it's a current version (6 and above should be ok) natively support AVCHD>ProRes422 transcoding without use of a plugin.
Are you using a current version of Final Cut?
To everyone coming by - and asking for help - please do note that I'm only talking about using Final Cut version 6 or higher.
As far as I know, nothing before version 6 supports AVCHD importing.
:)
Thanks!
Hey Jon, saw your posts re: sr11 + FCP 6... I can't get FCP to recognize the camera at all, any light you can shed would be really awesome...
Intel based macbook pro (brand new)
FCP 6.0.5
SR11 connected via USB
The clips are recorded in HD SP mode (1440x1080 50i I believe)
Tried virtually every variation of easy setup.. then tried matching the sequence settings you posted.. no luck.
Device control presets: "non-controllable device" (as all other choices mention firewire..
When I turn on the camera and select USB connect, i do see "No Name" being mounted and can see/manipulate it's contents.
iMovie '09 recognizes the camera just fine, and pulls clips no problem- it just downgrades the heck out of them to near standard tv levels.
I also bought Voltaic, with which i can copy the .MTS files to my hard drive, and then convert them to a .mov file.. takes forever and results in a GIGANTIC file.. 1:30 clip (60 megs on camera) turns into 1.2GB.
I hope I provided enough info to diagnose the problem..
Thanks a lot for ANY help you can provide...
Chad
